Clun Community Hall

Our Problem - For some years we have received complaints about the toilets at the hall that were installed some 30 years ago.  They are cold, damp, old-fashioned and frequently vandalised.  The Ladies Toilet is cramped and has insufficient facilities.  People don’t want to book the hall for their parties and wedding receptions - that is not good news as we need the additional income to cover the costs of running the hall.

What are we planning to do? - We have had plans drawn up to totally refurbish the toilets with new sanitary ware, hand basins; new flooring, new cubicles.  The ladies will be enlarged to provide four cubicles and four hand basins.  In the Gents the urinal trough will be replaced by urinal basins plus new fittings. The central heating boiler is past its sell-by date and is too small to provide hot water to toilets, kitchen and heated radiators throughout the hall including the stage and backstage area.  So a new boiler and extra plumbing is included in the scheme.

When will we start? - Tenders have been received, a contractor chosen and the total cost of the scheme is £48,666 plus VAT.  Work starts on 18th February.  We have a grant of £28,000 from the Shropshire Area Partnership and we had hoped for £25,000 from the European Objective 2 Community Buildings Fund but Clun does not qualify as a deprived area in 2008.  We have about £10,000 from our own funds, and have so far received £9,550 in donations.

Please, please can you help us? - We need to raise about £8,000.  The grant of £28,000 from Shropshire Partnership is only available until 31 March this year so the refurbishment must start now.

How you can help? - £8,000 is not such a large sum if you break it down - £10, £25, £50, £100 will all help.   You can help by making a donation as a club/organisation or by asking your members to make personal donations.  Don’t forget that tax payers can Gift Aid charitable donations. That makes the gift of greater value to us.  Your club/organisation could stage a fundraising event – coffee mornings seem to go down well!

Clun Memorial Hall is our biggest community asset.  Please support our aim of keeping Clun’s most important asset in good order.
